The Municipality of Iraklia placed within the Region of Central Macedonia in the valley of Strymona river with an area of 448,79 square kilometers and a population of 21,145 inhabitants. The geographical position is characterized by the proximity of Kerkini Lake which is one of the 10 Ramsar wetlands. Important natural resource is the geothermal field of Heraclea – Lithotopou (low enthalpy) which occupies an area of about 45 sq. km. The seat of the municipality is the town of Iraklia.
